The first Newmilns Food Festival was a great success with a brilliant turnout from the community and visitors from further afield!
The first Newmilns Food Festival kicked off at 11.00am on Saturday, 17th September with a queue at the door awaiting the opening! First demonstration up was the N.R.A.'s Gent's Bake Off with their Victoria Sponges! The weather was brilliant bringing the visitors out in their masses - outdoor street food vans were kept busy in the sunshine. Inside were samples galore - from cheese, pickles, scotch eggs, pastries, baking, craft beer, fresh produce, artisan coffee, sweet treats and liqueurs! The children's cookery competition was taking place in the centre marquee, opposite the cookery demonstrations.
The cafeteria was run by Loudoun Academy Parent Council with volunteers from the school. Busy from the start, the children were kept busy serving the visitors with homemade cakes, tea and coffee. The bar got off to a slow start but within an hour or two this was one of the busier areas - the pink Prosecco went down a treat, especially with a Love Newmilns heart-shaped strawberry garnish!
The prize-giving finished off the day - a big thank you to everyone who sponsored, contributed or volunteered to help out and thank you also to the producers who attended our inaugural event! Hope to see you all next year!
Over the next week or so, we will be creating a photo gallery on the website, so if you missed the event, you can check out all the action here!
