NEWMILNS
HERITAGE TRAIL SIGNAGE
THE HERITAGE TRAIL - INTERPRETATION PANELS & VENNEL SIGNAGE
Thanks to generous funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund Scotland, Newmilns has installed a series of heritage interpretation panels and vennel signage throughout the town, marking key locations along the Newmilns Heritage Trail. These signs help bring the town’s rich history to life and make it easier for residents and visitors alike to explore and understand the stories that shaped our community.

Celebrating our Local Heritage
The heritage panels highlight important buildings, places and events from Newmilns’ past – from its weaving traditions and industrial heritage to notable landmarks and community spaces. Positioned at significant points around the town, each sign provides historical context, images and information that allow people to discover Newmilns in a new and engaging way.
This project forms part of the wider work of the community to celebrate, preserve and share Newmilns’ heritage. We hope the signage encourages more people to explore the town, learn about its past, and feel proud of the unique history that makes Newmilns such a special place.
The town heritage trail is on the
Love Newmilns Heritage App, allowing visitors to explore it as part of the town’s trails. Download the Heritage App

The National Lottery Heritage Fund
The
National Lottery Heritage Fund is the largest funder for the UK’s heritage. Using money raised by National Lottery players, the fund supports projects that connect people and communities to heritage. Their vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future. From historic buildings, our industrial legacy and the natural environment, to collections, traditions, stories and more. Heritage can be anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations. They believe in the power of heritage to ignite the imagination, offer joy and inspiration, and to build pride in place and connection to the past.
