NEWMILNS

HERITAGE APP

What's it All About?

Our Newmilns Heritage App launched on Saturday, 10th May 2025, at a Heritage event in the Church Hall.

The new app encompasses three heritage trails:

The Town Centre Trail
Explore the historic buildings in the town, a charming mix of local history and scenic riverside paths

The Full Walking Trail
An extended walk around Newmilns, including locations from the textile and industrial heritage of the town

The Football Heritage Trail
Discover how Newmilns played a role in the development of Scottish football.

Eye Spy & Challenges
A fun game for families to enjoy with clues hidden around the streets and a spooky graveyard treasure hunt at Loudoun Paris Church

In addition to the walking trails, the app features:

  • A historical timeline of Newmilns from the current century back to 12 A.D. and earlier
  • Then and now views to allow you to compare the differences over the years
  • Audio and video memories of the town
  • Links to local groups, events and businesses.

The Love Newmilns Heritage app was commissioned by the Newmilns Regeneration Association and developed by the Newmilns Heritage Group, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, to whom we are very grateful.

What if I didn't make it to the app launch?

Don't worry if you didn't make it to the App Launch Event - we will be giving out a QR Code to allow you to scan and go directly to the download page, where you can download the App after the event. Keep an eye out on social media or for posters around town.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is the largest funder for the UK’s heritage. Using money raised by National Lottery players, the fund supports projects that connect people and communities to heritage. Their vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future. From historic buildings, our industrial legacy and the natural environment, to collections, traditions, stories and more. Heritage can be anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations. They believe in the power of heritage to ignite the imagination, offer joy and inspiration, and to build pride in place and connection to the past.
