  • Identify and support local community champions to take a leading role in activity and projects
  • Encourage and support volunteering and community leadership, enabling individuals and groups to take ownership
  • Facilitate community meetings, events and consultation, supporting a move from consultation to co-production
  • Identify and build on existing community skills, assets and strengths
  • Build and maintain relationships with local organisations, partners and services to strengthen collaboration
  • Support community-led environmental and outdoor initiatives, including development of a community garden

Coordination and Delivery

  • Coordinate and support the delivery of community-led projects and activities
  • Provide light-touch project management to ensure effective planning, delivery and monitoring
  • Support communication and information sharing across community initiatives, partners and stakeholders
  • Monitor participation, gather feedback and support evaluation of impact

  • Be organised, proactive and able to work independently
  • Have the ability to coordinate activity and support delivery across multiple projects
  • Have a strong commitment to community empowerment, inclusion and equality

The Irvine Valley Lace Festival 7-10 October 2026 In 1876, Alexander Morton introduced the power loom to our valley, transforming Darvel, Newmilns and Galston into a global heartbeat of textile excellence. 150 years later, we celebrate the resilience, art, and innovation of an industry that once boasted 40 factories and continues today through our two remaining mills. Join us for a landmark four-day celebration of our heritage. While we celebrate 150 years of the power loom this October, the Irvine Valley's transformation truly began right here in Newmilns. In 1838, our own Joseph Hood ignited an industrial revolution by introducing the first Jacquard machine. By utilising revolutionary punched cards to automate complex patterns, Hood laid the foundation for the craftsmanship and global reputation that would define our valley for generations.
